USA Buy Now Price Analysis: How the USD Exchange Rate Shapes Import Trends
Car imports from the American market are experiencing another renaissance. However, in addition to choosing the right model and assessing its technical condition, the key factor determining the overall profitability is the exchange rate, specifically the USD/PLN relation. We analyzed our uCars database of "Buy Now" offers for the most popular models imported to Europe and correlated them with USD exchange rate fluctuations.
What Do European Buyers Import Most Eagerly?
According to our statistics, importers focus on three main segments:
- American Legends (Muscle Cars): Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger, and Charger. They account for almost half of all inquiries.
- Premium Class & SUVs: BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and the highly desirable luxury SUV BMW X6.
- Luxury Sedans: Mercedes-Benz S-Class – a synonym for luxury, which offers incomparably richer equipment in the US version.
"Buy Now" Price Analysis (Average Market Values)
The table below shows the average purchase prices in the "Buy Now" option (expressed in USD) at insurance auctions in the USA (Copart, IAAI) for selected years:

Correlation: How the USD Rate Determines the Final Price
When buying a car from the USA, you pay in dollars not only for the vehicle itself, but also for inland transport, ocean freight, and auction fees. Moreover, import taxes like duties and VAT at the port of discharge are calculated based on the USD value and converted later.
Import Math: A 2020 Mustang Example
Let's look at importing a 2020 Ford Mustang purchased for an average price of $7,320:
- USD Rate = 3.80 PLN (Cheap Dollar): The purchase price is 27,816 PLN. After adding transport, auction fees, duty (10%), and VAT (19% in Bremerhaven), the final price (excluding repair) is about 50,000 PLN.
- USD Rate = 5.00 PLN (Expensive Dollar): The purchase price rises to 36,600 PLN. The total import cost is over 66,000 PLN.
- Exchange Rate Difference: A massive 16,000 PLN difference for the exact same car!
Why Choose "Buy Now" During Exchange Rate Fluctuations?
